In the U.S., craft beer is growing every year. One of the major areas through which craft brewers can obtain new drinkers is by their labels or their creative names. Marketing through labeling was perfected in the wine industry featuring labels that were easy to remember. Brewers in competitive markets are starting to create interesting names and labels to stand out which highlight local products, produce, and alcohol choices.
Meet, Bullhead Brewing and Distilling. The fish makes a natural oval which is a good shape for packaging. I found a font that is bold and has curly serifs that are similar to the whiskers. I often create interest with depth. Here, I have the fins and cattails overlap the type occasionally. Your eye automatically finishes the interpretation. It’s a fun way to add interest and make flat art seem dimensional. I added in a grungy texture to the background of the fish. I also added ruled lines that create a vintage feel, similar to old recipe cards. I thought that was a fun way to reinforce the “home brew” concept.
